VMTA Privacy Policy


The Victorian Music Teachers’ Association (VMTA) respects and is committed to upholding your rights to privacy protection under the Australian Privacy Act. The VMTA will only collect personal information that is necessary or directly related to our functions and activities, or to comply with our legal obligations. Our privacy policy details the practices that we have adopted to protect your privacy so that you can feel confident about how we manage the personal information you provide to us.


The VMTA collects and stores information about its members for the following purposes:

  1. To manage their membership of the VMTA and the services that we provide them
  2. To make available to the general public information about members who specifically request to appear on the VMTA’s website directory
  3. To offer members secure online payment for services and products that are made available for purchase on the VMTA’s website

We will not collect information that does not pertain to the above purposes.

The VMTA will not disclose personal information about members to third parties without first seeking express permission or where required by law to do so. VMTA members will always be able to access the information VMTA holds about them.
In order to serve the purpose of the Association and to improve the services we provide, the VMTA may use the information collected for internal evaluation and research purposes. All collected information will be protected against loss and unauthorised use or disclosure.


When you log in to our website as a member, the VMTA will capture all of the data within the login form which is saved into our database. No credit card or other payment information is stored within the system.

Whenever you visit our website, our web host or internet service provider may record general information for evaluation and review. As with most websites, this information is likely to include:

  • Your internet (IP) address
  • When you visited our website
  • The pages you visited and any information and documentation you downloaded
  • The website you were looking at immediately preceding your visit to our site
  • Basic information about the types of computer operating system and web browser you are using

This information is used for statistical analysis only as a means of updating and improving our website. It will not be used to identify you or your internet viewing activity. The VMTA will not be held responsible for the actions of other parties where you have followed a link within our website.


The VMTA will only record your email address if you are a current or past member, or if you request to join our general mailing list, or if you send us a message and we need to reply to your query. We will add your email address to our member mailing list, or our general mailing list, because you have expressed interest in the activities and purpose of our Association, however you will always be given the clear opportunity to unsubscribe from this list. Your email address will not be disclosed to third parties without your express permission and will be stored securely.


All data collected by the VMTA is encrypted and stored on a secured server. Any data transmitted between you, the VMTA website and our secure server uses 2048-bit encryption to ensure your data is safe from theft or interception. The VMTA takes all reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse or loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Our data storage systems and servers are constantly monitored for unauthorised activity and misuse in order to minimise potential risk to member information.

We will not store within the system; credit card or other payment information that is used to collect online payment for services and products that are made available for purchase on the VMTA’s website.
