Genevieve Newton

Genevieve Newton is Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Music Teachers’ Association. Genevieve manages all aspects of the organisation including operations, finance, events, marketing & development, publications, strategic planning and membership services.
Genevieve has extensive experience in music education, arts management and marketing. After graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance, Genevieve worked as a freelance musician and as a cello teacher at various independent schools.
She subsequently moved into corporate services marketing and arts management. During this time Genevieve completed a Graduate Diploma in Marketing at Monash University and held the position of Music Officer at the Arts Council of England in London. Earlier positions included National Marketing Coordinator at Corrs Chambers Westgarth Solicitors and Senior Associate at Carter James & Associates, an arts marketing consultancy to the performing arts.
After returning to Australia, Genevieve completed a Graduate Diploma in Education at Monash University. She was a classroom music teacher and coordinator at Altona P-9 College where she established, developed and delivered a whole school music program. She also has training and experience in choral conducting and was President of Bay City Strings in Geelong where she conducted junior and senior string ensembles.
Genevieve currently combines her almost full-time position at VMTA with studio teaching and arts management consulting.
